Mangaluru, January 11, 2019: The eminent city based rationalist Prof. Narendra Nayak has been reelected as the President of Federation of Indian Rationalist Associations during its 11th Annual General Body Meeting and national conference held on 5th and 6th January 2019 at Andhrakesari Kalakshethram, Ukkunagaram, Vishakpattanam, Andhra Pradesh. Prof. Ram Krishna Bhattacharya was the chief guest on the occasion.

Prof. Narendra Nayak is a crusading rationalist who has led a sustained campaign over the last four decades against superstition and fraud based on irrational beliefs. He is also a consumer rights activist. In recognition of this, Prof Narendra Nayak was also conferred with a national award instituted by famous rationalist Dr Innayya for his outstanding contributions in the field of spreading humanist and rationalism in the country.  


Responding to the various challenges to rationalism faced throughout the country, the following resolutions were passed during the meeting.


1.To strongly condemn the attacks, threats and filing of false cases on rationalists.

2.To condemn the promotion of pseudoscience, quack remedies and unscientific statements during national scientific events.

3.To condemn the diversion of funds from education and scientific research to unscientific concepts and methods supporting superstitions.

4.To condemn the clandestine inclusion of unscientific, non scientific and personal beliefs like astrology into curriculum of schools, educational boards and universities.

5.To condemn the unscientific statements made by the Vice Chancellor of the Andhra University at the recently held National Science Congress.

6.To condemn the attacks on the judiciary and Constitution of India in the name of religious sentiments.

7.To condemn the attacks on women based on religion, caste, gender and the criminal acts like mob lynching, honor killings with the support of the ruling party.

8.To condemn the politicizing and non adherence to Supreme Court verdict in the recent entry of women to Sabarimala Aiyappa temple.

9.To demand more allocation of funds to science communication and scientific research in the budget.

10.To demand the implementation of the 2013 Supreme Court judgment on the demolition of unauthorised places of worship built on public land.

The general body also resolved to strive hard to succeed in the mission to implement the aims and objectives of FIRA and to pursue them vigorously.
