Private Schools blatantly violated guidelines on student admission, fee, donation

Mangaluru, 29 April 2015: Most of the private schools in Dakshina Kannada either unaware of notice issued to them by the Commissioner of Department of Public Instructions on 13 March 2015 regarding admission of students under provisions of Right To Education Act and other Rules neither followed any guidelines.

school_In a reality check up in the city on April 28 Tuesday by the section of media along with Shikshana Rakshna Vedike activists found not a single private primary schools followed the laid down norms and admitted students violating rules and regulations of the Government.

The claim of Dakshina Kannada District Level Education Regulating Authority was a lie and the officials has not any serious action implementing and circulating the notice issued by the education commissioner, Lolaksha, Convener of Shikshana Rakshna Vedike alleged.

Flex board of 4x6 feet should comprise 13 data points, including available seats, number of seats reserved for various categories, medium, admission calendar of events, tuition fee and other information. But, nothing is visible in the school premises.

Dakshina Kannada District Level Education Regulating Authority (ERA) headed by deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim directed all aided/ unaided primary and high schools in the district to put up flex boards containing information about admission before May 8.

ERA meet on Monday 27 April chaired by Ibrahim directed all block education officers (BEO) in the district to conduct spot-checks to find out if all directions in the circulars regarding school admission issued by the commissioner of public instructions are followed.

The officials in the meeting claimed that majority of aided and unaided schools in the district have followed directions with regard to the admission process that commenced March 10.

As per the circular, private schools should announce the available seats on March 10, application forms should be distributed from March 15 and the last date for submission will be April 30. Private schools will have to publish the final admission list on May 25.

We have conducted visits to many schools in the city. None of the schools have put up flex board as mandated in the circular dated February 28, 2015. Deputy Director of public instructions (DDPI) and BEOs have failed in implementing the directions of the commissioner, Lolaksha alleged.
