Prime Minister assures all help to the fishermen delegation

Mangaluru, Jan 10, 2019: Satish Kundar, president of Malpe Fishermen Association, said on Wednesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured a delegation of fishermen of instituting a high-level investigation in the matter of the fishing boat from Malpe, Suvarna Tribhuja, which went missing on December 15, 2018, off the Goa coast with seven fishermen onboard.

 

Mr. Kundar said here that the delegation met Mr. Modi in New Delhi at around 10.45 p.m. on Tuesday.

When the matter of the missing fishing boat was brought to his notice, Mr. Modi said that a high-level investigation would be conducted and that he would ask Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to look into it. The delegation comprised representatives of fishermen community from the coastal States.

The delegation, led by president of Indian Fishermen Association Veljibhai Masani, also urged Mr. Modi not to impose road cess on diesel being provided to fishermen.

It also sought the setting up of Union Ministry for Fisheries, continuation of subsidised kerosene for fishermen, and not to impose Goods and Services Tax on equipment of fishermen. Mr. Modi promised to look into the demands and provide facilities for the fishermen, Mr. Kundar said.

Yashpal Suvarna, president of the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts Fish Marketing Federation, Dayananda Suvarna, Kishore D. Suvarna, Keshav Salian, Nitin Kumar, Manohar Boloor, Ibrahim, representatives of fishermen community from the State, were part of the delegation.
