Prashanth murder case: One more accused arrested in Mumbai

Mangaluru, Oct 24, 2015 :  Police who are investigating into the case of murder of Prashanth Poojary, a Bhajrangdal activist and a flower vendor of Moodbidri, have arrested one more person at the Mumbai airport. With this the total number of arrests in the case has risen to 9. Police have already  arrested eight persons in connection with the murder.

Informing this to reporters at the City Police Commissioner’s office here on October 24, Saturday,  ADGP Alok Mohan said  there was no question of sparing  anyone  who commits a crime and added that the question of political allegiance and religion does not arise when arresting criminals.

The accused arrested in Mumbai airport has been identified as Mohammad Imtiyaz Gantalkatte (40). He is said to be  from Mangaluru. The police had earlier issued a Look Out notice for him at all airports following which the officials at Mumbai airport had identified the accused  who had planned to escape to Dubai.

On allegations of biased approach by the police officials, the ADGP clarified that the Police Department was a professional body and its officers were impartial in discharging their duties.

S Murugan, City Police Commissioner, Dr Sharanappa, SP, Amrit Paul, IGP and others were present.

Prashanth Poojary was murdered  right near his flower shop  on October 9. The murder had sparked protest by Hindu outfits in the taluk and Moodbidri had even observed a bundh for two days. Recently, the Hindu outfits had set ultimatum to the Police Department to apprehend the killers failing which they would intensify their protests.
