Udupi, March 17, 2019: Though the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency is reserved for JD(S) as per the coalition seat sharing agreement, Congress leader and former minister Pramod Madhwaraj is likely to contest from the seat.

pramod madhwarajMadhwaraj told media that he had held a discussion with chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on Saturday. “Yesterday I met Kumaraswamy. He has said that a final decision will be taken only after taking everybody into confidence,” he said.

On the new development, Madhwaraj said there was a proposal to give a Congressman the JD(S) ticket. “Whether I will be sticking to that or not I don’t know. CM said he will take a decision after consulting everybody,” he said.

When asked from which side the proposal to field a Congressman from Udupi-Chikkamagaluru was mooted, Madhwaraj replied, “CM had called me to discuss about candidate. I don’t think anything is finalized. JD(S) don’t want to give up their seat. They want to field a candidate from JD(S) who is a Congressman. Coalition means a complete coalition. It should not be a mixture of oil and water. It should be a combination of milk and honey. I think the CM wants the coalition to be like this,” he said.

The Congress leader said he was not sure when a final decision on Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency could be expected. “I am very very relaxed and cool. I take things as they come,” he added.
