Melbourne, Nov 23, 2015: The family of murdered Bantwal-origin woman Prabha Arun Kumar has unveiled a plaque in her honour during an emotional memorial at the western Sydney park where she was killed.

Prabha Arun KumarOn the day after what would have been her 42nd birthday, Ms Kumar’s parents, husband, young daughter and brother were among those who followed the same path she did on the night she died in March.

Her brother, Shanker Shetty, said his elderly father was struggling to understand why anyone would harm his daughter.

Both wiped back tears as they stood before around 100 people at the memorial service in Parramatta Park.

"He just wants to one day know who did it and then why he did it, that’s all he’s asking for," Mr Shetty said.

"No mother or father should go through what they’ve been through in having to bury their own daughter.

"No child should go through what [my parents have] gone through."

Mr Shetty said his sister had helped many people in her life

He said the park was safer in the wake of his sister’s death because security cameras and lighting had been installed.

The pathway where Ms Kumar took her final steps before being stabbed to death has been re-named Prabha’s Walk.

Her husband, Arun Kumar, had prepared a speech for the memorial event but later said he felt too overwhelmed to speak, simply telling those who had gathered that he wanted justice.

More than eight months after her murder, police are yet to make an arrest.
