Power cuts as UPCL 2nd unit suspends operations

Padubidri, Mar 21, 2014:  The district is facing frequent power cuts following the suspension of operations at the UPCL second unit owing to some technical hurdle in the generator.

Presently, only 600 mw of electricity is generated from UPCL first unit. UPCL sources said efforts are being made to rectify the problem and resume operations of the second unit of the plant by March 21, Friday evening.  In such an event, UPCL will begin power generation to its fullest capacity from Saturday.

The power cuts, particularly when annual examinations of the students are underway and when mercury levels are soaring, have greatly inconvenienced the students and the general public.
