Mangaluru, Jan 09 2019: Postal employees staged a dharna in front of the Head Post Office Udupi  on January 8, Tuesday and demanded better facilities for postal workers.

 

Postal employees staged a dharna in front of the Head Post Office Udupi  on January 8, Tuesday and demanded better facilities for postal workers.


The dharna was held as part of the nationwide strike call given by trade unions and it was organised by the Postal Joint Council of Action, National Federation of Postal Employees and All India Postal Employees Union.

Suresh K., labour leader, said that Union government should withdraw the National Pension Scheme and restore the old pension scheme for postal workers. It should pay revised wages and arrears to the casual, part-time and contingent employees, and daily wagers.

It should regularise the services of casual labourers. Privatisation and outsourcing of postal services should be stopped. Five-day week should be implemented in Postal and Railway Mail Service. It was incorrect to introduce new services without developing proper infrastructure, manpower, and training to the staff, he said. Umesh Nayak, Janardhan, Vijay Nairy, Ashok, labour leaders, were present.
