Popular Konkani language needs work

Mangaluru, Mar 15, 2018: Konkani speaking people should protect the language. The TV and internet has affected the language. All Konkani speaking people should unite and strive for the growth of the language, said Gokuldas Pai, Karnataka Bank general manager.  He was speaking at an interaction on Konkani Yaksha and a workshop on Yakshagana organised by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and Konkani Samskrithika Sangha.

There are a large number of Konkani speaking people here in coastal region. They can host series of programmes on Konkani language.

Basti Vaman Shenoy of World Konkani Centre said, “Amateur artistes should support Yakshagana Bayalataand youngsters should show interest in Yakshagana, as it helps in promoting language and culture,” he added.

BJP leader Vedavyasa Kamath said the youth should respect their elders.

Senior Yakshagana Bhagavatha Aanantharama Bhat Kallamundkooru and artiste Giridhar P Nayak Mithabail were conferred Konkani Yaksha Rathna award.

Yakshagana Bayalata Srikrishna Parandhama was staged at the event. In Konkani Yaksha interaction, M R Kamath, Govinda Prabhu, Prafulla Hegde and Niveditha Prabhu participated.

Tata group retired MD C D Kamath, CA Nandagopal Shenoy, Konkani Academy members Santhosh Shenoy, Lakshman Prabhu were present.
