Mangaluru, Feb 04, 2019: Senior Congress leader and former union minister B Janardhana Poojary has alleged that a ploy was underway to destroy democracy in West Bengal.
Speaking to reporters at the Gokarnanatha Temple Hall at Kudroli on February 4, Monday, Poojary pledged support for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamatha Banerjee who is on a hunger strike to protest the move of the CBI to question Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar. He said he would go on a hunger strike at the shrine from Monday evening in support of Mamatha Banerjee and added that the decision to continue the hunger strike would be taken after considering Tuesday’s Supreme Court verdict.
"Mamatha Banerjee has said she was on a hunger strike to save Democracy and was ready to die for the cause. Prime Minister Narendra Modi should come forward to save the life of a woman," said Poojary.
However, the senior Congress leader had no answer when scribes questioned if it was proper to hold a hunger strike over a political issue in a shrine and whether it was right to support Mamatha who was defending an officer who is facing allegations.
