Poojary to distribute saris to widows for Mangalore Dasara

Mangalore, Sep 20: B. Janardhan Poojary, the former union minister, said that the management of Shri Gokarnatheshwara Temple Kudroli will distribute saris to 1500 widows as part of the Mangalore Dasara celebrations. He was addressing reporters at a press meet held today.

Speaking about the pathetic condition of widows, he said that they are the most neglected section of society and are not allowed to participate in marriages and other events. He said that the management of Shri Gokarnatha Temple has decided to distribute saris among widows and even invite them to participate in the Chandika Homa in order to convey the social message that widows are not responsible for their husbands’ death and that they deserve to live a life of dignity. 


Revealing further information, he said that each sari costs Rs. 300. 


He also urged men to consider marrying widows, adding that the temple management will bear the expenses and will also give an AC hall free of charge for the purposes of widow remarriage.
