Mangaluru July 03 , 2016: Senior Congress leader B Janardhana Poojary has said it was not possible t o implement a Uniform Civil Code in a nation like India which has people practising different religions and belonging to thousands of castes.
Speaking to reporters at the party office on July 2, Saturday, he said that the Union Government by planning to implement the Uniform Civil Code was resorting to vote bank politics in the backdrop of impending elections in five states. The government would only be dividing the nation for the sake of votes, if it implements Uniform Civil Code, he added.
On the recent dissidence in the party after the cabinet reshuffle, with many even seeking the removal of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Poojary said Siddaramaiah who has implemented several welfare programmes for the poor should continue as CM for many more years to come.
He also had a word of praise for Siddaramaiah when he questioned if there was any one leader who had as much commitment and dedication as the CM. On this occasion, Poojary also refuted the allegations of a few that senior leader Oscar Fernandes had a role behind the dropping of Vinay Kumar Sorake from the cabinet.
Mahabala Maarla, former mayor, Kallige Taranath Shetty, TK Sudhir, Purushottam Chitrapur and others were present.
