Pooja Gandhi to act in Tulu film Beere Devu Poonje

Mangalore, October 22: Pooja Gandhi, the famous Mungaru Male actress, will act as the court dancer in the Tulu movie “Beere Devu poonje.” This is the star’s first Tulu movie; and she had arrived at Mangalore for the film’s muhurta, which was held at Suratkal on Friday. Senior actors Leelavathi and Umashree will also play roles in the movie.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ms. Gandhi said in a press conference held in Mangalore on Thursday that she cannot speak Tulu, but that she has taken it as a challenge. To effectively act the role, she plans to learn Tulu as quickly as possible.

The film is about the legendary Tulu warrior Devu Poonje, who lived 4 centuries ago. Historical evidences reveal that Devu Poonje lived in Venoor, Bangady, and Nandavar and died in battle against the Neeleshwara chief at Uchchila.

Producer of award-winning Tulu movie Koti Chennayya R. Dhanraj will produce and direct this film. He said that the film lyrics, script, and dialogues will be written by Amruth Someshwar, Yakshagana bhagawatha Bottikere Purushottam, and Kadri Navaneetha Shetty. R. Siddharth will play the role of Devu Poonje, said Mr. Dhanraj and added that Ms. Umashree will play the role of Devu’s mother.

The shooting is to commence on Friday at Panambur Kantheri Dhumavathi Daivasthana at Suratkal.
