Mangaluru, May 12, 2018: Polling for the Karnataka Assembly elections has begun in various polling booths across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts at 7 am. People are seen standing in queues in various polling booths enthusiastically to exercise their franchise.
Prominent among those who cast their votes are Mangaluru South Congress candidate J R Lobo, BJP candidate Vedavyas Kamath and Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel. Lobo cast his vote at St Sebastian School, Bendore, while Vedavyas Kamath and Nalin cast their votes at Gandhinagar.
Independent candidate Srikar Prabhu exercised his franchise at Ganapathi High School.
Mangaluru constituency Congress candidate UT Khader and BJP candidate Santosh Rai Boliyar also cast their votes at Boliyar Government School and Panela Higher Primary School respectively.
Udupi Congress candidate Pramod Madhwaraj cast his vote at Narayana Guru School, Malpe while Kaup Congress candidate Vinay Kumar Sorake voted at Udupi Women’s College.
Pramod Madhwaraj was accompanied by his mother Manorama Madhwaraj who is a former MP.
Senior Congress leader Oscar Fernandes exercised his franchise at Vivekananda School Ajjarkad. In Kundapur BJP candidate Halady Sriniva Shetty voted at Halady polling booth. Congress candidate Rakesh Malli exercised his franchise at Ankadakatte.
The fate of 58 candidates in eight constituencies of Dakshina Kannada district will be sealed today. Dakshina Kannada has a total of 1858 polling booths.
