Policemen not to go on mass leave, say authorities

Mangaluru, June 04, 2016: The city police commissioner and superintendent of police in the district are making an effort to prevent police personnel from going on a mass leave in protest against reported harassment and poor pay package.

The written grievances of the police personnel have been collected at the police station level. There are 1,400 lower rung police personnel in the City Police Commissionerate and 15 police stations under the SP’s jurisdiction, with 1,000 police personnel in these police stations.

City Police Commissioner M Chandra Sekhar and SP Bhushan G Borase have started collecting the grievances of the police personnel.  PC Chandra Sekhar said, "Grievances from police stations have been invited. Today June 4,  morning, we will receive grievances from all the police stations. Efforts will commence to solve the problems."

He said the police give priority to discipline. They will not hold a protest following a provocation by an outsider. "None of the police personnel in commissionerate limits have applied for leave. All will appear for duties on Saturday June 4. I am confident that they will not hold any kind of protest," he added.

SP Borase said he has spoken to all the police personnel in all the 15 stations.  At least  99% of them have promised to stay away from the protest. Measures will be taken to solve their problems. The grievances will be collected and brought to the notice of the higher authorities," Borase added.

The message of Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara and DGP Omprakash appealing the police personnel to drop the protest is being circulated among the police personnel through social media like WhatsApp and Facebook, he said.

Flex notice cleared : The Bunder police have cleared a flex installed at K B Katte in the name of Rajya Police Mahasangha regarding the protest by the police personnel.  A complaint has been registered against unidentified persons for provoking the police personnel to take part in the protest. Additional forces, including the BSF personnel, have arrived in the city to prevent any disturbances.
