Police trace poison bottle in Padubelle suicide case

Udupi, July 15, 2017: The Udupi district police have traced a bottle of poison from the house where four persons of a family allegedly committed suicide at Padubelle village here and sent it to the laboratory for testing on July 14, Friday.

It was reported on this site that Shankar Acharya, 50, his wife Nirmala Acharya, 45, their daughters, Shruthi Acharya, 24, MBA graduate, and Shreya Acharya, 21, a MCA student, had allegedly committed suicide in their house on Thursday (July 13) morning.  Shankar Acharya owned a jewellery shop in Padubelle.


K.T. Balakrishna, Superintendent of Police, told media on July 14,  Friday that the district police had searched both the house and shop of Shankar Acharya. They had found the poison bottle and it had been sent to the laboratory for testing.

“We are also going through his account books in his shop and studying the call records to get a clue on what prompted them to take the extreme step,” he said.  The family members and friends of Shankar Acharya had informed the police that he did not have any financial problems. They also ruled out any foul play.

“But both these aspect will have to be checked. We are continuing our investigations,” SP  Balakrishna stated.
