Police seize sand worth Rs 5 lakh

Mangaluru, Sept 13, 2018: Acting on a tip-off, Mangaluru rural police station and anti-rowdy squad, on Thursday raided three private places at Valachil, Adyar and Arkula and seized nearly 780 tonnes of sand valued at Rs 5 lakh.

Police have started investigation into the reasons why this large quantity of sand has been stored in the area and the purpose for which it was stored, while handing over the sand to the deputy director of the department.

The raid was carried out on directions from T R Suresh, city police chief, under the supervision of Uma Prashanth, deputy commissioner of police (crime and traffic). K Ramarao, ACP (South sub-division) and staff of the squad and PS were present.
