Police centre to come up on 24-acre site at Belapu - Udupi marks Aug 15

Udupi, Aug 16, 2015 : Addressing the Independence Day programme after unfurling the tri-colour and receiving the guard of honour at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College grounds Aug 15, Saturday, District In-charge Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake said that setting up of the National Cyclone Risk Mitigation Centre is also being planned in the district at a cost of Rs 40 crore, with the Central and State governments sharing the cost at a 75:25 proportion. Funds will be facilitated by the World Bank. The industrial zone will be set up at Belapu and a tender is called for the project of Rs 761 lakh. 68 acres of land have been earmarked for the purpose.
Sorake, stating that 25 acres of land have been allotted for the police training centre at Uppur, said that measures have been taken to develop the centre into a full-fledged police public school and training centre. The science research centre of Mangalore University will be established at Belapu at a cost of Rs 141.38 crore. The effective implementation of social security schemes in the district, Sorake said that 56,351 beneficiaries for Sandhya Suraksha Yojane and 32768 beneficiaries for Vidhwa Vethana Yojane have profited from the schemes in the district. He added that 65 crore is spent to provide infrastructure to the Kollur Temple. The work includes drinking water and drainage projects, he added.
A proposal has been sent to the government under the Paschima Vahini scheme for a project worth Rs 354.35 crore for 332 vented dams and salt water walls at dams. He added that through Grama Vikas Yojane, every Assembly constituency is provided Rs 3.75 crore to develop five villages. He said that up to 100 kilometres stretch of road is being developed in the district under ’Namma Grama-Namma Raste’ Yojane.
The State government has taken up farmer-friendly measures, Sorake said that with mechanising farming being the need of the hour, as many as 1,558 farming tools are distributed to farmers. The machinery is also available on rent at Ajekaru, Brahmavar and Byndoor.
About 224.16 lakh is spent under national food security programme. infrastructure will be developed in town following the Paryaya celebrations in January. Up to 1,61,332 families have been selected as beneficiaries of the Anna Bhagya scheme in the district, the minister said, adding that 55 teachers have been appointed in the Maoist prominent areas of the district.
He said that 90 per cent success is reported in the attempts to make the district free of open defecation, that Rs 250 crore is released to handle the sea-erosion menace, and that Rs 54 crore is released under the Nagarottana-2 project to set right the underground drainage system for local bodies. Under the Directorate of Urban Land Transport programme, bus stops at Malpe, Udupi and Manipal will be upgraded. 3,322 beneficiaries under various minority development schemes. Families of fishermen who lose their lives while fishing will receive Rs two lakh as compensation.
The construction work of the port at Koderi is almost complete, and is being carried out at an expenditure of Rs 30 crore. The third phase of the Malpe port is underway, and the construction work is at a cost of Rs 3,715 lakh; 22 teams - including the district reserve police - took part in the parade that marked the Independence Day celebrations.
