Mangaluru, April 28, 2016 : Several shops at the Central Market in Mangaluru were raided by MCC officials on April 27, Wednesday in order to ensure strict adherence to the plastic ban rule. During the raid the officials seized plastic bugs which were found in bulk quantity. However no shop was fined.
In the meantime, some tense situation was witnessed during the raid when some shopkeepers even went on a flash protest opposing the raid. The intervention of the police helped in cooling down the situation. The protesting shopkeepers alleged that the officials had even seized the grocery bags in their shops though they were permitted to use them.
The raiding team was led by MCC Environmental Officer Madhu. Plastic ban is in force in the city since April 15.
