Prof. K. Gunapala Kadamba, President, Kambala Academy and Founder Secretary, Dakshina Kannada Kambala Committee said the idea was mooted when a protest was held demanding legal status for the sport at Freedom Park in 2017.

However the number of pairs of buffaloes participating may not be as high as 100 as in Dakshina Kannada considering the expenses involved.

Kadamba disclosed that one more Kambala event near the backwaters of Gorur Dam in Hassan District, is being planned in association with the Akhila Karnataka Grameena Kalegala Okkoota.
