Planning for free traffic flow in city

Mangaluru, June 28 2018: The proposed Mangaluru City bypass will ensure free flow of traffic, North-South and East, is avoided in the city area.

According to Stup Consultants, the passenger car units (PCUs) were 21,780 per day at Hejmady, 20,565 at Talapady (both NH 66) and 26,626 at Brahmarakootlu (NH 75). At least, 20% of goods vehicles as well as private vehicles are not destined to Mangaluru, it said.

Vehicles from Udupi towards Bengaluru and Kerala can take the bypass from Mulki; from Kerala towards Bengaluru and Udupi at Thokkottu and from Bengaluru towards Kerala at Melkar and towards Udupi at B.C. Road, to avoid the city. Distance between Mulki and Thokkottu is 37 km via the city and 27 km via bypass; Mulki and B.C. Road 47 km and 41 km and Melkar-Thokkottu 30 km and 26 km.
