Mangaluru, Nov 08, 2017: The Pingara Rajyotsava Award was conferred on Chief Operating Officer of UAE Exchange  Sudhir Kumar Shetty Perla at a function held at Town Hall on November 7, Tuesday. The Award is instituted by Pingara Weekly.

Sudhir Kumar Shetty was chosen for his exemplary contribution in providing employment to over two lakh people all over the world especially to people of DK, Udupi and Kasargod districts. Hails from Perla in Kasargod district of Kerala, Sudhir Kumar Shetty is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the UAE Exchange based in Abu Dhabi which has a network of branches all over the world.


Addressing the gathering after honouring Mr. Shetty, Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the bishop of Mangaluru diocese said " I am very glad that the Pingara Rajyotsava Award-2017 is given to the most deserving and exemplary person of our region. May almighty God bless him with long life and courage to do good work and service to the people.  Sudhir Kumar Shetty deserve all praises and appreciation for his generosity and compassionate services. He will be remembered for all the great contribution rendered to the society. I pray and bless him and his family in the name of God almighty and wish him the very best in life.

In his acknowledging speech, Sudhir Kumar Shetty said, "I am humbled and thankful to the organisers of Pingara Award for honouring me today.  However, I accept this award giving the credits Dr. B R Shetty, my mentor and founder of UAE Exchange. I owe him this honour. UAE Exchange was started 33 years ago and has gone through a lot of hardship to come to present status.  It was Dr. B R Shetty who pursued and nurtured the UAE Exchange to a global enterprise. He spread its wings across the world, setting up over 2 lac branches and 800 direct branches which provided service to people in money transfer from one country to other within minutes."

JR Lobo, MLA of Mangaluru South, Roy Castelino, former president of Konkani Sahitya Academy, Raymond D’Cunha, Editor of Pingara, Harikrishna Punaroor and others were present.

The jury included  Jagannath Shetty Bala, District President of Working Journalists’ Union,   Roy Castelino, Harikrishna Punaroor,  Kudroli Temple Committee Member Dr B G Suvarna, Akashavani Programme Executive Sadananda Perla and former Corporation Bank officer C J Pinto.

Sudhir Kumar Shetty who is an alumnus of St Aloysius College is also  a chartered accountant. He   has been serving UAE Exchange since 25 years.
