Pilikula zoo gets more attractive with new additions

Mangaluru, Feb 20, 2019: Visitors to Pilikula Biological Park.from today feb 20, Wednesday will be thrilled by new animal additions.  A pair of Indian gaur (bison), 10 pairs of painted stork, 12 night heron, and three pairs of reticulated python are the new attractions now.

According to H. Jayaprakash Bhandary, director of the park, all of them have been brought from Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Vandalur, Chennai, under an animal-exchange programme.

In return, Pilikula Biological Park has given two pairs of King Cobra, a Whitaker’s Boa, and a Wolf Snake to the Vandalur zoo.

The Indian gaur is listed as an endangered animal in the Indian Wildlife Protection Act, Director Bhandary said, adding that the male bison brought from Vandalur is 11 years old and the female bison is six.

The reticulated python is considered the world’s longest non-venomous snake. It is native to Nicobar island.
