Pharma distributor pulled up for illegal disposal of drugs

Mangaluru, July 25,2017: Reports indicate that officials of drugs control department on July 24, Monday detected large amount of ’expired’ drugs disposed in a haphazard manner in the bushes on Bondel-Pachchanady Road. The officials who got wind of this illegal act from residents of area ensured that the pharmaceutical distributor to whom the drugs belonged based on the batch numbers not only cleaned up the same, but also issued notices to them for illegal disposal of drugs in contravention of rules.

A team of department officials headed by assistant drugs controller Shankar Naik and drugs inspector Dhananjay Hatapaki visited the spot where the drugs were dumped based on information. Based on examination of batch numbers on the drugs discarded with their boxes, the officials determined it belonged to S P Pharma, pharmaceutical distributor in the city. They summoned the distributor to the spot and got them to clean up the mess and seized the same.

Shankar Naik said the department will take legal action against anyone found to discard expired drugs in public place in an unscientific manner. He also urged people to inform the department if they come across any such instance in their area and assured prompt action against those guilty.
