Mangaluru, Jan 14, 2016 : The Christian community has contributed immensely towards the development of Dakshina Kannada district in diverse fields including education, farming and culture, said Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.
He was speaking after felicitating achievers in various fields on the occasion of the golden jubilee of the Permude St John Baptist Church on January 13, Wednesday. The Church Souvenir `Rujuvatha’ was released by the MP on the occasion. Fr Richard Lasrado, Fr Valerian Rodrigues and Fr Peter Noronha who had served as Parish Priests at the Church were honoured on the occasion.
Rev. Fr Aloysius D’Souza, Bishop of Mangaluru presided over the function. State Minister Abhayachandra Jain inaugurated a house donated by the Church to a poor family to commemorate its golden jubilee. A health fund was also inaugurated.
The minister felicitated sports talents in the parish. He informed that a football stadium would be constructed in Mangaluru. He said funds have been earmarked for an international standard swimming pool in Mangaluru at a cost of Rs 5 crore. He further added that ten acre land has been set apart for the proposed cricket stadium in Mangaluru. A tennis Pavilion will also come up at Udupi, he informed.
