Mangaluru, Jan 2, 2015: S Murugan who took charge as the new Police Commissioner of Mangaluru on January 1, Friday has said that people friendly police system was his first priority.
Speaking to media men after taking charge, he assured to carry forward the good work done by his predecessors and also to implement minor changes wherever necessary.”I have served in different postings in various places. Every area has its own specialities as well as problems. I am of the strong view that people of this city are law abiding,” he said.
Asked how he would deal with the situation in Mangaluru considered as a sensitive area, the new Police Commissioner said a place will be considered sensitive owing to various reasons. More than trying to know the reasons behind the same and also to find out who are responsible for making it a sensitive area, sadly there is much discussion about police and intelligence failure, Murugan said adding “When police act according to the course of the law, some may like it and some may not. But we have to do our duty,” he said.
Earlier outgoing Commissioner R Hithendra entrusted charge to S Murugan who is the fourth Police Commissioner of Mangaluru. Seemanth Kumar Singh, Manish Kharbikar and Hithendra were the earlier Commissioners successively.
