Pejawar seer inaugurates developmental projects in Naxal hit Mundagaru tribal village

Udupi, June 3, 2015 : Various developmental projects worth Rs 45 lakhs initiated in the Mundagaru  tribal village on the borders of the  Shringeri taluk in Chikkamagaluru district   under the leadership of Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt were inaugurated on June 2, Tuesday. The Mutt has been undertaking projects that assist people of Naxal affected villages since the past seven years.

Prior to the inaugural ceremony the  seer had a dip in a nearby stream  and then offered pooja and naivedyam  to the Lord. Interestingly, the naivedyam was prepared in the house of a tribal named Venkanna Gowdlu whose house was earlier renovated on behalf of the Mutt itself.

The seer inaugurated the electricity connection provided to residents of the village with the co-operation of MESCOM and Department of Forest and also symbolically distributed aid towards medical treatment /education of the needy. He also inaugurates  the Punah Pratishta of the Sri Mahakali Mariyamma Temple of Mundagaru.

On this occasion, the tribals offered honey  in woven cane  bowls to the seer.

At a meeting held later, the seer spoke on the need to ensure security to the lives of the original tribal inhabitants in the Western Ghat area, to protect their customs and traditions, to solve their problems and the role of governments in this regard.

Mundagaru Puttappa, President of Pejawar Mutt sponsored Citizens’ Committee, MK Mariappa Gowda, Temple Management Committee President,  Dr NA Madhyastha,  environmental scientist and others were present.

Veteran folk artistes Hosakoppa Subbayya and  Barakanakatta Subbayya were felicitated on the occasion.
