Palemar inaugurates 3-day Students’ Yakshagana Fest 2010

Mangalore, Feb 3: “In spite of the fact that traditional folk art is fast disappearing, the Yakshagana Academy is making a strong effort to conserve Yakshagana by organizing a wide range of activities,” said District-in-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar after inaugurating the 3-day Students’ Yakshagana Fest 2010 at Town Hall on Feb 3, Wednesday organized by Karnataka Yakshagana Academy of Bangalore.

Palemar lauded the achievements of Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat who is successfully guiding the Yakshagana Academy to encourage the art among the younger generation. He urged students, government, and Yakshagana fans to cooperate with one another in popularizing the art of Yakshagana.

Captain Ganesh Karnik, the deputy chairman of NRI Forum, said that, in the past, Yakshagana was performed in temples in order to disseminate information and messages. Today, the Yakshagana Academy must disseminate social values through Yakshagana, he said.

P Narayaswamy welcomed the gathering; and Murali Kadekar proposed the vote of thanks. Tallur Shivaram Shetty and Chandrashekar Shetty were also present during the occasion.
