Palemar conducts surprise raid on TPO

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Jan 1: Krishna J Palemar, the district-in-charge minister, conducted a surprise raid on the Town Planning Office (TPO) of MCC in order to check the status of several pending files on Jan 1, Friday. He informed media people that the inspection was because of a series of complaints against TP officials who unnecessarily delay the provision of building licenses claiming that Mangalore’s recent Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) is responsible for it.

The people of Mangalore had submitted about 880 building applications, of which 576 are yet to be approved. The corporation had placed 240 applications under restriction and had sent 84 applications to MUDA.

The minister said that the MCC had no right to cancel any application or withhold any building license.

Every officer’s table had pending files. He said that if the commissioner fails to take action against the erring officials, he would do so through the state government. These officials had issued an order to the people to cancel the building licenses without the approval of the higher authorities. Therefore, all those orders must be taken back instantly and the pending files must be cleared at the earliest possible, said Palemar. He said that the elected representatives, and not the deputy commissioner or the district-in-charge minister, is responsible for managing MCC.

He alleged that the officials unnecessarily harass the public by saying that criminal cases will be registered against illegal buildings. This is impossible because the government has implemented specific rules for illegal as well as legal buildings. He also said that the government will implement certain new laws within a couple of weeks; and officials who still have pending files on their tables will be transferred.
