Padyana Gopalakrishna Award conferred on Chandrahas Charmady

Mangaluru Apr 26, 2016: Sub editor of Nirantara Pragathi Newspaper Chandrahas Charmady was conferred the  Padyana Gopalakrishna Award for his feature article “Deha Nadalli Manasu Kadali” which was published in Prajavaani Newspaper in 2015 and got selected for the Award. The Award presentation ceremony was held at Press Club on April 26, Tuesday.

Speaking  after receiving the Award, Chandrahaas Charmady said that  today there are  very few organisations which recognise the writings of a reporter. Honouring journalists by recognising their quality writings go a long way in motivating them to write more about social issues, he added.

He narrated his experience while writing the article  “Deha Nadalli Manasu Kadali” wherein he exposed the atrocities and illegal activities in HD Kote in Mysuru. He had received several threat calls and letters after publication of this article, he said adding he was happy to note that the article had a positive impact wherein several organisations  came forward to donate food and conduct several programmes in HD Kote.

 Superintendent of Police Dr SD Sharanappa said that, police and media are like family members  as both are concerned about social issues. Sharanappa congratulated Chandrahas for his achievement in rural reporting.

Meanwhile, Chief Sub Editor of Prajavaani Suresh Belakaaje who has served in Mangaluru for 19 years  and is transferred to Bengaluru, was felicitated on the occasion.

Senior Journalist Manohar Prasad, President of Working Journalists’ Union Jaganaath Shetty Bala, Shrinivas Nayak and others were present.
