PM’s teachers day interaction with students left cold in DK

Mangalore, Sep 6, 2014: It is understandable that no student from Mangalore got to ask PM Modiji questions on his Teachers Day interaction with students all over the nation. It was indeed a great programme and the enthusiasm of the young students and their confidence was palpable. It probably bounced back from the psyche of a great person that our PM is, his genuine affection and care for the young was visible all over the nation.  mangalore students may have been caught in the language trap, since the interaction was in Hindi as such.

 

The Auditorium at Canara Girls High School was packed to capacity with more than 600 students to witness the first mass contact programme of its kind by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to interact live with millions of young students and teachers across the nation on the occasion of Teachers’ Day.

Though the programme was greeted with loud cheers at the start, but after PM’s speech - the interaction which was more than 100 minutes duration failed to hold the attention of students mid-way. Those who could not understand Hindi were busy chit-chatting with friends and others appeared bored.

Some students who really followed liked the PM’s vision on power, environment and skill development initiatives. ``I could not follow Hindi, so I could not understand most of it said one Std X student. Canara CBSE School Principal Joy Rai felt that PM spoke at the level of children and wished that all students should have watched this interaction.

In Udupi, students of Vidyodaya Public School, Udupi were super excited as PM began his address. Sudha Rao, principal, Vidyodaya Public School, Udupi also thought of getting 500 extra chairs on rent and called upon the students of three schools managed by Vidyodaya Trust and as a result there were about 500 students watching PM on screen.    Many students said PM’s effort was laudable as it would make the country together. Student Vivek Kumar said this should continue every year on teachers’ day.

Both in Mangalore and Udupi, only a few schools had this arrangement, while others sent SMS to parents to make their children watch the interaction at their homes. More schools in this region should have made use of this great opportunity to bring the young closer to personalities and leaders.
