Mangaluru, Aug 01, 2016: A media release from Course Director, Sr. Marie Evelyn, of St Agnes post graduate and research centre stated that July 29, 2016, was a red letter day at St Agnes for Post Graduate Diploma in Guidance and counselling courses. The graduation of the fifth batch PGDGC and the initiation of PGDGC sixth batch had Dr. U.V. Shenoy as the chief guest, with a lively celebration.
Dr Shenoy stressed on the importance of counselling services by trained professionals for today’s world. He impressed on those present that be it little children or the aged, as also professionals, all require counselling, as it has come to notice that people succumb to the pressures and often end lives now a days.
Lugina Miranda a well known counsellor of Mangaluru along with Leena Fernandes under the guidance of Sr Marie Evelyn started this part time course in 2011. Today the strength has grown from 8 participants with two resource persons to 16 participants with 8 resource persons.
It was a very touching and emotional experience to hear the graduated batch come up on stage and mention about their life changing experiences and their experience as professional counsellors.
Following this 16 new entrants were welcomed into the 6th course. There was a consensus among all present that each adult must become aware about the vital need to know and be sensitive to this social and educational need.
