Mangaluru, Aug 27, 2015 : The Popular Front of India (PFI) organised a huge protest in front of the DC office in the city on August 26, Wednesday to condemn the Attavar immoral policing incident wherein a youth was stripped, tied to a pole and thrashed allegedly by right wing activists for reportedly. The youth named Shabbir was with one of his female colleagues belonging to another community when the assault took place.

Mohammad Haneef, District President of PFI who deplored the incident, described it as a pre-planned act. He also stated that no one has the right to take law into hands. He also alleged that the administration had failed to maintain law and order.


Haneef Khan Kodaje, district President of SDPI  said crime graph in the district was soaring  and stated that in case of Attavar incident, the police failed to respond to the situation on time and claimed that it were  some labourers present at the spot who caught hold of the culprits.

Continuing, Mohammad said “Sharan Pumpwell is the mastermind behind the incident.” He also demanded Sharan’s arrest.

He further said though such incidents have been taking place since  long the community which was silent until now will no longer remain silent. “We will retaliate against such incidents whch occur in the future,’ he warned.

Fr William Martis, Director of Inter-Religious Dialogue, Udupi Diocese who also spoke said he was participating in the protest as it was the Muslim community which stood by the Christians during the church attack incidents.


Anand Mithabail, Convener of Dalit Sangharsha Samithi, Puttur,  Shafi Bellare, Secretary of PFI, Haneef T S, President of  Belthangady unit  of PFI and many others were present.

A memorandum was also submitted to the DC  demanding stern action against the attackers of Shabbir.
