Mangaluru, Jan 19, 2015: The Popular Front of Indi (PFI) has demanded a thorough investigation into the recent communal clashes reported following the Virat Hindu Hridaya Sangama held at Puttur.
Speaking to reporters in the city, AM Athavullah, District President of PFI expressed the suspicion that the “Sangama held at the Puttur was just a ploy to create communal tension.”
He blamed the “Provocative” speeches of RSS leader Kalladka Prabhaker Bhat and VHP leader Praveen Togadia for the clashes and alleged that Bhat had offended the Muslim community in his speech.
Athavullah further said “As many as 25 activists who were returning from the convention in a pick-up van (KA 21 B-249) along with 200 others barged into the Karaya masjid and went on a rampage and even assaulted religious head Ashraf Bakaavi and six other students. Even their cash and cell phones were looted.”
The miscreants even stoned some houses and burnt two vehicles,” he further alleged.
He also demanded the arrest of all those responsible for the violence at the earliest.
The PFI leader also accused Hindu leader Arun Kumar Puthila of defending the putting up of a banner of Sadhvi Pragya Singh, an accused in the Malegaon blast and also of giving inflammatory speeches during the campaign organised prior to the Hindu Sangama.”
PFI Puttur unit President Shafi Bellare was also present among others at the press meet.
