Over 50 residents air grievances during Mayor’s maiden phone-in programme

Mangaluru, May 23,2017 : The first phone-in programme organised by Mangaluru Mayor Kavitha Sanil on May 23, Tuesday received over 50 calls from the members of the general public, with most of the calls pertaining to underground drainage grievances, road problems, encroachments etc. The Mayor  who patiently heard the grievances of the callers has directed MCC officials to  redress the same within a week. As far as major works including road works are concerned, the Mayor instructed officials to  take up the works after  monsoons after preparing the budget estimate.

 

 

Responding to a complaint from Mahesh Vamanjoor that a house has come  up on a drainage  near the RTO test centre near Pilikula, the Mayor  assured to solve the problem after sending a team of officials to the site.

To a  request from Vasanth Kottara for signal arrangement near the Sharavu Temple where there was heavy traffic, the  Mayor said the same would be brought to the notice of the authorities   during the meet to be held at MCC office on May 26 to discuss traffic woes.

When Urwa store resident Sunitha wanted to know if the rumours that industrial wastes are treated and supplied to citizens in the wake of water problem, the Mayor clarified that nothing like that was done and the industrial treated water is used only for industrial purposes.

 Karnataka Vedike’s Venkatesh Shenoy pleaded to clear encroachments of storm water drains at several places and also to make Kannada name boards mandatory for shops and  business establishments.

Supreeth Kumar, a resident of Urvastores appealed that MCC staff must have uniforms as it has become identify them otherwise.

When a citizen named K Narayana  complained to the Mayor that the  MCC officers were apathetic to the problem arisen owing to a  wall collapse at Vasanth Nagar near Karnataka Bank branch at Pumpwell, the Mayor immediately responded and sent an officer to the spot to solve the issue.

Deputy Mayor Rajaneesh, Chief Whip Shashidhar Hegde, Standing Committee Presidents Abdul Ravoof, Sabitha Misquith, Commissioner Mohammad Nazeer and other senior officials were present.
