Over 25 associations join hands to observe Belthangady bundh against Yettinahole on Oct 7

Belthangady, Sep 26, 2015: As many as 25 like-minded organisations of Belthangady taluk have come together to observe a voluntary bundh in the taluk on October 7 to pressurise the government to drop the Yettinahole Integrated Drinking Water Project. A symbolic road block will also be held as part of the protest.

Dr. Niranjan Rai of the Anti Netravathi River  Diversion Action Committee said a social impact study of the project would help the opponents of the project to effectively fight their case in the court.

Dinesh Holla of Sahyadri Samrakshana Sanchaya pointed  out that  the IISc study report has revealed that only 9 TMC of water was available in Yettinahole contrary to  the government view that 24 TMC of water was available.

Dhananjaya Rao, an advocate who also participated in the meeting suggested filing of a PIL in the High Court while Mahesh  Shetty Timarody of Rashtriya Hindu Jagarana Vedike  said all Gram Panchayats should pass a resolution against the project.

District BJP President Pratap Simha Nayak,  Kateel Dinesh Pai, Harish Poonja, High Court Advocate, Deviprasad,. Editor of Jai Kannadamma and others were present .

A Netravathi Ulisi Horata Samithi was formed with Pushaparaja Shetty as Convenor.

 Representatives of various organisations including Tulunada Okkoota, Jai Karnataka,  SDPI, Lions Club, Belthangady Taluk Photographers’ Association. Nagarika Seva Samithi, Belthangady Taluk Hitarakshana Vedike,  Association of Medical Shop owners  as well as representatives of educational institutions participated in the meeting.
