Over 25,000 people of coastal origin from across nation expected to arrive in next few days

Mangaluru, May 13, 2020:  As many as 25,000 people hailing from the coastal districts who are stranded in Mumbai and other states due to Covid-19 crisis, have applied through the Seva Sindhu portal to  return to their home districts. All of them will have to mandatorily undergo a 14 day quarantine.

A meeting held at the DC office on May 12, Tuesday to discuss this issue was presided over by District in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary. He has  instructed officials to make quarantine arrangements at the respective assembly constituency level under the leadership of the local legislators.

He said the institutional quarantine arrangement made by the district administration is free. While those who wish to stay in hotels would be provided necessary facility provided they pay for it, the minister added.

He said those arriving who exhibit symptoms of infection will be shifted to the Wenlock Covid-19 hospital.

Deputy Commissioner Sindhu Rupesh said a total of 6,092 applications have been received through Seva Sindhu and that every application has three to five members names. Thus it is estimated that around 25,000 may arrive.  The applications from Maharashtra itself is 2,594 and over 5,000 are expected to arrive from there. They will be quarantined at the government facility, she said.

City Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha,  District Health Officer Dr Ramachandra Bairi,  elected representatives and officials were present.
