Mangaluru, June 16, 2020: Opposition leaders in Mangaluru City Corporation have come down heavily upon the MCC administration for the steep hike in the waste management cess at a time when the people are reeling due to the impact of the lockdown.
Speaking to reporters at the Congress office, opposition leader Abdul Rauf flayed the MCC for increasing the annual waste management cess from the Rs 180 which was fixed in 2015-16 to Rs 600. The cess has been increased by 231%, he said and added that the Corporation which ought to have eased the burden on the people during the present Covid-19 times has instead burdened them. He also warned of protest if the Corporation did not take steps to reduce the cess.
Congress corporators Naveen D’Souza, A C Vinayraj, Shashidhar Hegde, Praveen Chandra Alva, Bhasker K and others were present.
