Open House opens doors of higher education at Mangalore University

Mangaluru, June 13, 2015: It was a day for Mangalore University to showcase its strength and convey a message that it is a "University with a Difference".

Students from various colleges across the district and from other places thronged the university campus in Mangalagangothri on Friday to learn more about various courses and facilities available there.

The ’Open House’ programme initiated by the university showcased its courses, facilities, milestones, contributions, faculty, funding, hostels, sports facilities, various research programmes and provided a special opportunity for students and parents to visit departments of their choices in the campus. Special arrangements made for the students to have free wi-fi access to results of BBM, BCom, BSc, BCA and BSW in the campus.


While all post graduate departments of Mangalore University made presentations to showcase their strength, FMKM Cariappa College, Madikeri (a constituent college of Mangalore University) explained students "why should a student choose their college for PG studies."


FMKM Cariappa College principal Parvathi Appaiah said that the college has been re-assessed and re-accredited with ’A’ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with 3.5 GPA on a scale of 4, for the period 2011-16. "Our college offers post graduation courses in Physics, Economics and English. We are commencing the new MBA course in tourism from this academic year," she added.


College English post graduation department coordinator KS Nayana said, "with the demand for English teachers constantly on the rise, and with several educational institutions coming in the district, one can find themselves well placed among immediately after completing the course."


Meanwhile, students made use of the opportunity provided during the open house programme that helped them have access to all departments and get information on courses offered.


Minister for health and family welfare UT Khader inaugurated the open house programme, which will also be opened on June 13.
