One-legged dancer Vandana performs at Town Hall

Mangalore, Mar 5: V R Vandana and her troupe presented an enthralling programme of Bharathanatyam, Koochupudi, and Mohiniatam at Town Hall on March 5, Friday. The programme was hosted by Bharath Nritya Sabha. The most amazing part of the programme was that the dancer has only one leg.

Although Vandana was born with a handicap, she excels at both Bharathnatyam and Mohiniattam. She can accompany both slow as well as fast beats. Vandana uses her wooden leg only for walking and gives all her dance performances only with one leg.

The performance was followed by a felicitation programme, in which Mangalore’s newly elected Mayor Rajani Dugganna honored Vandana with a memento, a shawl, and a citation. Shashikanth Nagvekar of Samskara Bharathi presented her a check for Rs 5000.

Deputy Mayor Rajendra Kumar, President of the Yakshagana Academy Kumble Sundar Rao, Ullal Mohan Kumar, Suresh Raj, and Sharadha Mani Shekar were also present on the dais.
