One death, 15 new Covid-19 cases lift Karnataka’s tally to 518

Bengaluru, April 27, 2020: Karnataka has registered fifteen new Covid-19 cases, raising the state’s tally to 518, according to an official here on Monday. Among the new cases, six cases are from Kalburgi. Dakshina Kannada, Jamkhandi, Bagalkote, Mandya and Vijayapura contributed two cases each and Bengaluru Urban, one.

A 57-year-old man died of COVID-19 in Kalaburagi on Monday taking the fatalities due to the virus in Karnataka to 20. Eleven Covid patients got discharged, with total discharges rising from 182 to 193.

The health department said the 466th positive case, a 50-year-old man from Bengaluru, who committed suicide on Monday, had died of a non-Covid cause. "Patient (466) died on Monday with non-Covid cause," said the morning medical bulletin. According to the health department, the 50-year-old man was admitted to the Victoria Hospital on Friday with history of pneumonia, hypertension, HCV positive and chronic kidney disease with regular dialysis.He allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the third floor of the hospital.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the central government have released a list of private and government Covid laboratories. The list featured 15 government and seven private labs.

While no major decisions over exemptions to the lockdown norms came through after Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa’s videoconferencing with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a review of the State’s progress on Monday, sources indicated that the State is inclined to have a stricter vigil in red zones until the areas become green zones over a period of time in respect to COVID-19 control. “The decision on how to provide exemption will be based on the Union government’s directive,” sources added.
