Offensive comments against Kateel Goddess: City cops visit Mumbai FB office

Mangaluru, Dec 9, 2016 :  The city police who are investigating into the case of  posting derogatory comments on Kateel  Goddess as well as actress Ramya in Facebook, visited the social networking site’s office in Mumbai on December 8, Thursday. The move came after as many as three letters to the Facebook by Mangaluru police seeking details of those who made the posts, proved futile.

The visiting police team including  CCRB Inspector Valentine D’Souza,   Bunder Inspector Shantharam, Special Crime  Branch Inspector Shivaprakash and  cyber crime  officers from Bengaluru  inspected the relevant files at the Facebook  office.

The case regarding offensive posts against  Kateel Goddess was registered in Bunder Police Station.

In August, the Bantwal Town police suo motu registered a case against the derogatory posts made on Facebook in October 2015. The city’s Mangaluru North police too registered a case and a joint investigation commenced. The police arrested Shafi Bellare (30), a native of Bellare, for his alleged involvement in posting the derogatory contents on Facebook.

Police Commissioner Mr. Chandra Sekhar said that as part of investigation, the police have sought specific information from Facebook authorities about the derogatory posts. Despite notices, Facebook officials failed to provide information and they did not cooperate with the investigation team.
