Mangalore, Sep 30, 2014: Several nursing students, under the aegis of the Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat organised a protest in front of the Mangalore Police Commissioner’s office on September 30, Tuesday to condemned the alleged assault on two Wenlock nursing students by ASI Srikala and other police personnel.
The incident is learnt to have taken place on September 27.
Earlier, the protestors took out a rally from Wenlock premises to the Police Commissioner’s office.
Speaking on the occasion, Ramanath of Wenlock Nursing Students Association alleged that the ASI along with other police personnel had entered the college campus without the permission of the Principal or the DMO.
He said even as the students were playing cricket, the ASI enquired about Rama and assaulted students wherein two including a handicapped student were injured.
He warned of severe protest if no action followed against the accused cop.
Jayaprakash, an ABVP leader who also addressed the protestors said the ASI after assaulting the students had threatened to file a false case against them.
ABVP city unit Secretary P K Jayesh and others were part of the protest.
The protestors later submitted a memorandum to the Commissioner who assured that the case would be probed by the DySP and action would be taken against the guilty.
It may be mentioned here that the police had entered the campus on the basis of a complaint filed by a lecturer named Rekha against a few students accusing them of eve teasing.
