Karkala, April 18, 2015: A notorious thief wanted in connection with several cases of thefts  in temples has been arrested by the Udupi District Crime Branch Police  along with the Karkala Police.

The arrest  of the accused namely Nagaraj of Sanoor village in Karkala was made at Pulkeri Junction here on April 17. Friday night. Valuables worth nearly Rs 2.5 lakh  have been seized from him.


It is learnt, the accused hailed from Gantinakoppa in Sagar taluk of Shivamogga and was involved in thefts in several temples.

Police said during interrogation he has admitted that he was responsible for the burglaries at Ayyappa Temple near  Karkala bus stand, Durga Parameshwari Temple of Moodbidri, Ganapathi Temple of Miyar in Karkala and Rakteshwari Temple at Pulkeri.

He is also learnt to have told the police that he used to hire a Maruti Omni vehicle so that he could escape soon after the burglaries.

Karkala police are conducting further investigations.
