No information as to whether Dubai returnees were tested for Covid-19 before departure : DC

Mangaluru, May 15, 2020:   Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh has said that the administration has no information as to whether the 176 passengers who had arrived by a special flight from Dubai on May 12 were subject to Covid-19 test before boarding the flight. Her remarks came at a press meet after 15 people who arrived by that flight have tested positive.

She said those who had arrived by flight have been subject to screening and rapid test. The throat swab samples of all passengers were sent for test  and those who arrived by the flight had medical needs and there were pregnant women  too. The DC however said of the  infected persons there are no pregnant women.

Strict watch on quarantine centres : The DC said the  people who arrived by the flight from Dubai have been placed in 10 quarantine centres including hotels. All measures have been taken to ensure they strictly follow the rules and do not come out. Every centre has a nodal officer, she said. The  quarantine centres are monitored through CCTV cameras, she said adding  chances of violating quarantine rules are low.

The Deputy Commissioner said of the infected  three are  members of the same family and one of the infected is a six year old girl.

All those tested positive have been admitted to the Wenlock Covid-19 Hospital, the DC informed.

Clarification on sub-standard rice distributed to migrants : With regard to DYFI allegation that sub-standard rice was distributed to  migrant workers in Jokatte area,  the DC said the same was not supplied by the Labour Department and added that the administration would look into the issue.

She said  the Labour department has provided food materials to 21,000 migrant workers and there is no complaint regarding sub-standard food materials.
