No bandh in Coastal Karnataka

Mangaluru, 18 April 2015: Life was very much normal in coastal Karnataka and there was no bandh in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi on Saturday 18 April 2015.

While several organisations in the State are spearheading the bandh to protest against Tamil Nadu’s opposition to the Mekedatu drinking water project across the Cauvery, there was no echo of it in these parts of the coastal districts.

City buses, inter-city buses and autorickshaws operated as usual in the two cities.

Private express service buses to Mangaluru, Kundapur and Karkala were running in the day. Udupi’s express and city services are controlled by private operators.

In a statement posted on a mobile social networking app, Annayya Kulal, president of the Dakshina Kannada unit of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, said they would not join the pro-Mekedatu protest because activists from the southern districts had not supported their agitation against a project to divert the Netravathi river.

M.G.Hegde, social activist, is also echoed same opinion on bandh called by pro kannadiga organisations against Tamil Nadu.

The parts of old Mysuru region, namely Mysuru,Mandaya,Ramanagara,Chamaraja Nagara, Bangalore rural and urban districts normal life paralysed following protest rallies organised by various outfits.
 

The inter- district buses towards Mysuru and Bengaluru will start operation in the afternoon KSRTC sources informed.
