Nitte’s ’Team Aero Club’ moves ahead at Kanpur event

Mangaluru, Apr 19, 2017: Team Aero Club Nitte, a team of multi-disciplinary undergraduate engineers from NMAM Institute of Technology (NMAMIT), at Nitte in Udupi district, has bagged the second position in the North Zonals competition of Boeing-IIT National Aeromodelling Competition organised by Boeing India and Aerotrix at IIT Kanpur, recently.

Nitte.jThe team of Karthik B., Rathan R. Prabhu, and Prabhat Kumar Pathak from NMAMIT, Nitte, was among the 78 teams from various colleges of the country. The team had to design, fabricate, and demonstrate a fixed-wing aircraft system that could perform the manoeuvres in various rounds with given constrains.  Karthik., who had performed distinctly well in his piloting skills, was awarded the first runner up.

The team had been participating in Boeing IIT National Aeromodelling competition for the last four years and they were always in the top 20.

This year, the North Zonals was held at IIT Kanpur and the team had practised hard. Their efforts paid as they emerged as the first runner up in the competition.

The Team Aero Club was formed in NMAMIT in 2012 by Divin Bharadwaj, who is now working Lieutenant and Pilot in the Indian Navy. The team consists of young aero modellers from various engineering departments of NMAMIT, who work together, build and fly fixed wing and multi-copter. They also conduct workshops on chuck gliders, radio controlled planes and also multi-copters.

The team includes Goutam Naik, Shreesha K.S., Karthik S.M., Vivek Kumar Shukla, Deeksha, Harshitha G.S., Nanditha S.J., Priyanka A., Krishna Adithya Bhat, Bhargav Upadhyay, and Anush Amin, who design and fabricate model aircrafts.

The pilots are trained by Ananth E. who is working as flight engineer in a private company in Bengaluru and Prateek P., both alumnus of NMAMIT. Gururaj Upadhyaya is the Staff co-ordinator of the club. The performance of the team had been improving over the last four years.

The team broke into the top 12 best teams and are looking forward to give their best at the final round which is to be held at IIT-Delhi on April 22.
