Nitte organizes a workshop on entrepreneurship opportunities in dairy sector

Mangaluru, Sept 25, 2018 : Dairy industry is booming in India with a growth rate of about 15% and is expected to reach over 200 billion US$ by 2030. India has a variety of diverse dairy products that have both domestic as well as export market. Setting up dairy industry requires expertise in engineering, food technology, quality control and laboratory technology as well as business management.




To encourage young qualified graduates and postgraduates to set up dairy related industrial activities, Nitte University Center for Science Education and Research (NUCSER), along with Dairy Skills and Food Quality Academy, Bengaluru organized one day workshop on “Entrepreneurship opportunities in Dairy Industry” at University Auditorium, Paneer Campus on September 21. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. B.V. Satyanarayana, Managing Director, Dakshina Kannada Milk Union. He highlighted about the growth of dairy industry in India and encouraged young qualified biologists and engineers to contribute to realising the immense potential offered by this sector.

Dr. S. Moodithaya, Pro Vice Chancellor, presiding over the function spoke about the need for inclination, innovation and inspiration for the success of any entrepreneurial attempt. Dr. SatishKulkarni, Chairman, Scientific Panel on Labeling of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India spoke of the opportunities for both setting up dairy product manufacturing units as well as in quality control and testing of products.

Dr. Iddya Karunasagar, Senior Director, Nitte University welcomed the resource persons and Dr. Indrani Karunasagar. Director Research and Development, Nitte University proposed the vote of thanks. The participants included final year students of food technology from Colleges around Mangalore as will as dairy enthusiasts from Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Over 150 young potential entrepreneurs participated.
