Nitte bags prestigious India belgium collaborative project

Mangaluru, Dec 22, 2017: Dr. Anirban Chakraborty, the Deputy Director at the Nitte-Centre for Science Education and Research (N-CSER) has bagged a prestigious collaborative project for faculty and student exchange for a period of three years (2018-2021) under the India-Belgium Proposal for Top Up Grant, jointly supported by Department of Science and Technology Govt. of India (DST) and Belgian Science Promotion Office (BELSPO). Dr. Ann De Paepe, former Rector of Ghent University and currently the Head of the Centre for Medical Genetics, Ghent University is the Belgian counterpart in this project.

The partner groups will be working on the mechanisms of human genetic disorders using the zebrafish model system. Under this program, the principal investigator (PI) and the researchers associated with the project will visit the Partner PI’s lab for work related to the project twice a year. Only six awards were given in the year 2017, with one each in plant science, computer science, health science, physics, astrophysics, and mathematics. The proposal of submitted by Dr. Chakrabortywas the selected one in the category of health science. Earlier this year, Nitte (Deemed to be University) and Ghent University has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the visit of four-member team to Ghent Universitycomprising the former Vice Chancellor Dr. Ramananda Shetty,Dr. Indrani Karunasagar (Director R &D), Dr. Harsha Halahalli, (Professor, KSHEMA) and Dr. Anirban Chakraborty (Dy. Director, N-CSER). This project marks the first successful initiative between these two Universities post MoU exchange.
