Nitte University is a role model for other Universities in the country: P. B. Acharya

Mangaluru, October 28, 2018: "Integration of India would be incomplete unless the NE population is connected with you and me just like the human body where all the parts should develop properly in order to have a healthy body" said  P. B. Acharya, Hon’ble Governor of Nagaland.  He was addressing at the award ceremony organized by Nitte University on October 26th at the University Campus to honor Sri Ramkui Jeme from Assam and Sri Latsam Khimun from Arunachal Pradesh with the degree of Honoris Causa in recognition of their immense contribution towards socio-economic development, gender empowerment and right to education to girl child. He congratulated and thanked Nitte (Deemed to be University) for giving free education to the students of NE India and recognizing the achievers from the NE States.

He also said that Nitte (Deemed to be University) is a role model for other Universities in the country for doing such noble works. He urged Universities in the country to recognize people who have been serving the society selflessly for their entire life. 

The Chancellor of the University, N. V. Hegde, in his presidential remarks, opined that if India is to speak in unison in the global village, we have to demonstrate by our acts that every Indian is equal regardless of where he comes from and what he does.  He reiterated the commitment of the University towards the cause of NE India through supporting education to underprivileged and downtrodden, student exchange programs and research collaborations. He made a special mention about the establishment of a centre exclusively for studies on NE States in the University, called the NAMASTE Centre.

The Vice Chancellor of the University Dr Satheesh Kumar Bhandary welcomed the gathering. The Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Dr. M.S. Moodithaya briefed the audience about the activities of the NAMASTE Centre. The Registrar of the University Prof. Dr. Alka Kulkarni and the Controller of Examination, Dr. Prasad B Shetty introduced the awardees to the audience. The coordinator of the centre, Prof. Dr. Anirban Chakraborty compered the program and proposed the vote of thanks. The Director (R & D), Prof. Dr. Indrani Karunasagar and other University officials were present.
